CRIME JAZZ : VOLUME 09 : SYD DALE IN ACTION! (2 DISC)
This is the first of my "In Action" series, each one will focus on the work of an individual composer working in Film, TV or Library. To start the series we have one of my favourite library composers, Syd Dale. Although he may not be too well-known outside the UK (or even in the UK), his music has been used for the last 30-40 years in various television series, commercials and films. He is probably best known for his lighter music although he also contributed many other styles of writing for various music production libraries, but the bulk of his work was for the Amphonic Library which Syd founded himself.
For those not familiar with Music Libraries, they were companies set up to record all types of "Mood Music" to be leased out to Film & TV production companies so they didn't have to spend money on hiring a regular composer. The quality of talent working for these libraries was incredible and it's only in the last decade or so that they have started to be released and gain the recognition they deserve. These recordings were never made available to the public, indeed most of them still aren't but through various compilations and people ripping their vinyl copies, a lot of these treasures are now gaining in popularity.
So here is a two-disc set of library tracks from Syd Dale, disc one focuses more on his action themed tracks, while disc two is a collection of his lighter, comedy themed compositions.
I must admit a personal fondness for the lighter side of Syd, although the opening track of disc one (Secret Service) is probably my all-time favourite peice of "Action/Spy" music writing.
Hope you enjoy this selection.

Great, but where is Number 6 ???
Regards, Stephan
Great albums. Never heard of Syd Dale before (sorry...), but the man is a "master" in composing and playing -accidental music- This is almost art and it's quitte a hommage. Again a great job Txhjay !! (I'm very curious who will be the next composer in the series)
Stephan,
Volume 6 is reserved for Licorice Pizza's "Music To Spy By 5",coming soon
Loungelegend,
Glad you like it, Brian Bennett next
Brilliant collection, how about a Laurie Johnson collection?
He's on my list, but this is a long running project so may take some time to cover everyone :)
Glad you like it so far
Yes, a Laurie Johnson collection would be fantastic. By the way, this whole series is easily the most artistic & professional I've ever seen! Your work is brilliant.
Cheers!
Great! The artworks are very professional not to mention the music.
I thank you very much for these gifts.
Thanks for putting this post together. It's a great idea, and a real resource to have such a large collection put together for an individual composer like this.
Cheers
Thanks Mark,
I'm hoping to do the same for a number of individual composers, stay tuned.....
What's the password for the files?
thanks
You don't need a password, I don't use them (I hate them)
You do need BOTH parts before you can unpack it though!
Enjoy
I'm looking the artwork for v.8, & 9
Please where can I found it?
You said are in rar, but in 8 there is nothing and in 9, is little and np back cover
Thanks in advanced
Maximino,
You need to download BOTH parts to get all the tracks and the cover artwork.
Enjoy!
Sadly the link for disc 1 is dead. Any chance for a re-up?
Hello,rar archive disc 1 is corrupt !!!
thanks
You need BOTH parts before it will unpack.
It will open up into a two-disc file :)
This is an absolutely fantastic site.
I really love that incidental mellow jazz flute music used in 60's - 80's stuff (the ipcress files theme being a great example of what I am on about) I am going to see if any of it is exhibited on these downloads. Not to mention the big band funky stuff from Britain and America.
Hats of to you sir for creating a website that oozes pure class and gives much much joy!!!
Peace & Love
Thanks for the kind words Mr Anonymous :)
I'm also a big fan of the cool & groovy flute sound found in that era of recordings. I think you'll find plenty of great examples littered throughout the whole collection.
The music libraries excelled at this style in the 60's & 70's.
Happy listening, and thanks again!
This link is also down.
