CRIME JAZZ : VOLUME 11

CRIME JAZZ : VOLUME 11 : ROY BUDD IN ACTION!
(2 DISC)

For this volume we have another great British film composer, Roy Budd.
Roy was a child prodigy and learned to play the piano by ear, aged just six. He formed his own jazz trio in his late teens and scored his first film at 23.

This two-disc collection focuses on his Movie scores from the 70's, where he created a style of his own. He had a wonderful way of mixing a big orchestral score with a funkier groovy rhythm which even today sounds fresh and modern. Sadly Roy passed away in 1993 aged just 46, but left behind a wonderful body of work for people to enjoy forever.

As with my Syd Dale set, disc one is "Action" based and disc two is from Roy's jazzier/easy compositions (most of them from films). Next to John Barry he is my favourite British composer and with no-one around today to carry on the tradition he may be the last of the greats (although David Arnold is my current favourite)

I hope you enjoy this collection, if you're not familiar with him you can sample a couple of tracks on the jukebox (on the main page)

I first heard of Roy Budd through
users on Napster back in 1999 and i
have had individual mp3's of Roy.
Beacause his LP'S are so hard to get on File! THIS Compilation you
put together is UNBELIEVABLE and the quality & Fidelity is INSANE!
I don't know where you get the time
to put these beautiful gems together with the incredible artwork, but Keep it Up!

Got to thank you a million for these espectacular compilations and for the extremely well done graphics too, mate. From my point of view, this is the best independent work from a blogger ever, sound & vision (if I make my words clear, hehe, sorry for my lousy english). Cheers from Brasil.

The other day, driving around the streets of los angeles, a friend and I listened to roy budd disc one. Like everyone else I've always dug the Get Carter theme, but damn...I had no idea. Amazing music. And, I like to think of myself as as an expert of the mix. Needless to say, I've been challenged; I've been schooled. For some reason disc 2 is running over the 80 minute marker on my burn program (I made sure no gaps were included). Figure I'll try a different program.

Thanks for all the hard work.

Jay

Thanks for the kind words!

I must admit to not burning these to discs myself yet, I just used the media player to check the "total" running time. Guess I shouldn't have trusted it!
I've just been too busy with various things.

I'm determined to get them all burned and printed out to make sure there are no other little niggles :)

The second disc was too long (by about 20sec) so I had to remove a track (Lust) and alter the back cover.

All done with new link as of now!

Glad you enjoyed your drive :)

Kind sir, the link doesn't work for the Roy Budd audio orgasmathon extravaganza.

Can you suggest an alternative link?

Sorry for the lack of new volumes and fixing links. The Crime Lounge has been in a semi-retired state for a while as I figure out what I'm going to do with it.

Thanks anonymous for letting me know about that site sharing my compilations. I guess folks can grab them from there for now until I get everything working again here.

Do check back every now & again, you never know when new volumes may appear :)
